How BioBee Extends Its Israel-Based IT Team Across the Americas

BioBee is a global Israeli company with operations around the world. As its Americas organization grew across the United States, Canada and Mexico, BioBee needed regional IT execution without giving up the standards, policies and technology governance maintained by its internal IT organization in Israel.

UPTIME IT provides that regional extension.

Founded in 1983 at Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu in Israel, BioBee develops biological solutions for agriculture, including biologically based integrated pest management. Its own site describes an organization of more than 300 people, six subsidiaries, five production sites and a global distribution network.

Global IT Standards. Regional IT Execution.

BioBee runs an international business, and the decisions that shape its technology — policies, standards, licensing, procurement, compliance — sit with its IT organization in Israel. That is deliberate. A company operating across several continents needs one set of standards, not a different answer in every region.

The Americas organization still needs the other half of IT: someone to answer the ticket, set up the laptop for the person starting Monday, look at the firewall, and be reachable in the same time zone as the people asking. Within the scope of UPTIME’s engagement that covers roughly 50 employees in the United States, across two New Jersey locations, plus operations in Canada and Mexico.

So the question was never whether to outsource IT. It was which responsibilities belong with central IT and which are better executed by a regional technology partner working to central IT’s direction.

One IT Strategy. Two Teams.

The responsibilities are divided on purpose rather than duplicated. BioBee’s IT organization is not asked to approve every password reset in New Jersey, and UPTIME does not set BioBee’s technology policy. Each side owns what it is closest to, and the two coordinate where the work overlaps.

That is what co-managed IT services are for: an internal IT organization that keeps control of its environment, and an outside team that takes operational responsibility for the areas both sides have agreed on.

Supporting BioBee employees across the Americas

UPTIME is the operating layer for BioBee’s Americas organization. Employees have a technical team to go to during their own working day, and that team works to the direction set in Israel rather than inventing its own.

Headquarters does not have to run day-to-day support from seven time zones away, and it does not have to give up anything it wants to keep.

Managing the Day-to-Day Technology Layer

Employee support

Day-to-day technical assistance for the Americas organization.

Endpoint operations

Endpoint management plus employee onboarding and offboarding.

Remote management

RMM and ScreenConnect provide the tooling for ongoing endpoint management and remote technical support.

Network & infrastructure

Support for firewalls, switches, wireless access points and regional infrastructure.

Headquarters coordination

Implementation and support aligned with the standards established by BioBee’s Israel IT organization.

More Than Adding Another Pair of Hands

A regional organization that needs more IT capacity can hire someone. That is the obvious move, and for some companies it is the right one.

It also concentrates a lot in one person. One set of skills, one calendar, one vacation schedule — and every responsibility that person carries goes quiet when they are out or when they leave.

Don’t add another technician. Add an IT team.

A co-managed model gives BioBee’s Americas organization a technical team rather than a technical hire: more than 60 years of combined experience across UPTIME’s team, coverage that does not depend on one person being available, and depth across helpdesk, endpoints and network infrastructure at the same time. BioBee’s internal IT organization stays in control of the environment throughout.

The Customer Perspective

Uri Bornstein, General Manager for North America, is the customer contact for this case study. BioBee has approved being named here.

The working relationship is the description: BioBee’s Israel IT organization sets the direction, and UPTIME runs the agreed operational layer across the Americas.

A Regional IT Operation Connected to Headquarters

What BioBee has now is one IT operation with two teams in it.

Centralized technology governance stays with the Israel-based IT organization: policies, standards, licensing, procurement and compliance are decided in one place and apply everywhere. Employees across the Americas have a regional technical resource that is reachable during their own working hours. UPTIME handles the agreed day-to-day operational layer — support, endpoints, onboarding and offboarding, and local infrastructure.

No part of that required BioBee to hand over control of its technology, and no part of it required headquarters to staff a second IT department in another hemisphere.

Co-Managed IT Without Losing Control

The common worry about bringing in an MSP is that the internal IT team ends up reporting to a vendor. Co-managed IT is the opposite arrangement. The organization decides what stays internal and what the outside team owns, and it can change that division later as things change.

BioBee is a concrete version of that. The strategic half of IT never left Israel. The operational half across the Americas sits with UPTIME, against standards BioBee set.

It is also a familiar pattern for us: BioBee is one of several Israeli-headquartered organizations we support, and much of our work is IT support for Israeli companies with U.S. offices.

Need More IT Capacity Without Replacing Your Internal Team?

If your internal IT organization needs additional technical capacity, regional coverage or local execution in the United States, UPTIME can operate as an extension of the team you already have.
